A real journey.
Real lessons.

Brett Graham began his career with Ray White in Cairns in 1987, rising to a leadership position across four high-performing agencies.

In 1996, Brett transitioned to a consulting role in Auckland, where he played a pivotal role in transforming an independent owner's 17 agencies into a 50-office franchise group over 2 years — moving that owner from business owner to franchisor.

Brett relocated to Christchurch in 1998, re-joining Ray White's as BDM across 50+ offices throughout the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

In 1999, he leveraged his extensive industry knowledge to acquire two small businesses on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, growing them to a network of 11 businesses, 180 staff and 2,000 managed properties by 2008. Following this growth Brett introduced numerous equity partners — nurturing a total of eight new partners — before completing his final exit transaction in February 2024.

Brett has walked through the doors of hundreds of offices, met just as many business owners, and navigated numerous market cycles. In recent years, he has become one of the industry's most sought-after advisors on Leadership, Business Planning and Succession Planning — providing guidance throughout the entire business lifecycle.

Mindsets

Mindset #1

Architecture vs Archaeology

Ask 20 business owners what they plan to change in their business over the next 12 months and the word "structure" will be used at least a dozen times. Business architects.

We are about becoming a better archaeologist. They don't impose structure — they uncover what already exists. The direction, wisdom, clarity, and answers you are looking for aren't on a podcast, YouTube clip or a stage. They're inside you. Trusting your own leadership to extract them is the secret.

Mindset #2

Is your business a game of Chess or Poker?

Running a business is a lot like playing a blend of two very different games. Chess is a game of skill with everything visible to you. In poker, nothing is guaranteed. The cards are unknown, the future unknown. You must master emotion, timing, risk, luck, and at times the art of knowing when to quit.

Our goal is to have you lead with confidence through either game.

Mindset #3

Leadership is Lonely

Not true! One of the secrets is to surround yourself with a small, trusted team of people who understand your vision and will defend it whenever you are not in the room. They get you and they get the purpose of the organisation. Meet with them regularly to share and discuss ideas. The wrong people in your business will see this as favouritism. The right people see it as bench strength — a table they would like to have a seat at one day.

Mindset #4

Who do I look for in my future Partner?

We get asked this a lot and it is easy to make a list of traits that future leaders need to develop. No one is born a Leader. A truer answer is look for someone who is prepared to hurt as much as you did.

To get the business where it is today took a lot of time, effort, and pain. Look for someone who is prepared to put in the time, make the effort and who is prepared to hurt when it is time to step up.

Mindset #5

What does Passion really mean?

So many people enter business on the pretext they are "passionate" — about property and people. A quick dictionary search reveals that passion can also mean to suffer and to endure. Throughout history, Kings, Queens, Artists, Authors and CEOs of world-class businesses were so passionate about what they wanted, they were prepared to suffer and endure whatever it took to succeed.

Are you one of them?
